Herbert sat at the kitchen table, nursing a cup of coffee. Margot bustled around, packing Brian's lunch.

?oMargot,? Herbert began, carefully choosing his words. ?oI have a proposition for you.?

Margot raised an eyebrow, not looking up from the sandwich she was assembling. ?oOh? Let me guess. It involves minimal effort on your part and maximum reward??

Herbert chuckled nervously. ?oWell? sort of. Old Man Fitzwilliam at Oakhaven Industries, he thinks there?Ts a communist plot to? replace all the coffee filters with inferior ones!?

Margot stopped, finally turning to face him. ?oA communist plot involving? coffee filters??

?oHe?Ts serious! He wants someone to investigate. And he?Ts offering overtime. Lots of overtime! Think of the new barbeque we could get!?

Margot sighed. ?oHerbert, you?Tre a safety inspector. Your job is to make sure the machines don't, I don't know, squeeze someone into a pulp, not chase phantom communists poisoning the office coffee.?

?oBut Margot, the money! And Fitzwilliam implied there could be? baked goods involved.? Herbert?Ts eyes widened slightly.

Brian walked in, grabbing his lunch. ?oSounds boring. What?Ts the effectiveness of coffee filter sabotage anyway? Like, how much damage could that *really* do??

Margot glared at Herbert. ?oSee? Even Brian thinks it?Ts ridiculous. You?Tre not becoming a coffee filter investigator, Herbert. End of discussion.?

Herbert slumped in his chair, defeated. ?oFine. But if the office coffee suddenly tastes like dirt, don?Tt come crying to me.?
