Herbert sat in his favourite armchair, remote in hand. The TV blared a nature documentary, though its relevance to his current state of semi-consciousness was questionable.

Margot bustled around the living room, tidying up amid the usual weekend chaos. "Herbert," she sighed, "Must you watch TV all day? You could at least pretend to care about the environment."

Herbert grunted in response. "I'm contemplating the interconnectedness of all living things, Margot. It's practically a form of... intellectual exercise."

Suddenly, a loud horn blared from the street outside. It was Brian, attempting to teach himself to drive Herbert's old pickup truck.

Margot winced. "That boy! He'll cause an accident before he even gets his citizenship!"

Herbert, jolted awake, peered out the window. "He's got a long way to go. That turning radius needs to widen considerably."

Margot shook her head. "I swear, this family is going to be the death of me."

Later, at dinner, Laura chimed in, "It's not Brian's fault, Dad. He needs proper driving lessons. And maybe a smaller vehicle."

Herbert just shrugged. "He'll learn. Everyone does eventually."
