Margot sighed, looking at the mess Brian had made in the living room. A deflated basketball lay near a tipped-over basket of toys.

"Brian!" she called out, her voice weary. "Whoever left this mess needs to clean it up."

Brian sauntered in, looking remarkably casual. "Oops?"

Margot raised an eyebrow. "An 'oops' doesn't cut it, Brian. This requires an apology and some elbow grease."

Herbert shuffled into the room, munching on a donut. "What's all the commotion?" He stopped, noticing the mess. "Oh, boy."

Brian saw his opportunity. "Dad, can you help me? I promise to do extra chores later!"

Herbert hesitated, then looked at Margot's stern expression. "Alright, alright. But only because I feel bad for the�?�" he trailed off, gesturing vaguely with his donut towards the mess. "�?� the situation."

Later, while Herbert was 'supervising' Brian, Molly toddled in. She reached for Herbert's donut with a tiny palm. Herbert, always a softie for Molly, gave her a small piece, much to Margot's chagrin.

"Herbert!" Margot exclaimed. "That's not a healthy snack for her!"

Herbert shrugged. "Just a little treat. Besides," he added with a wink at Brian, "it keeps her quiet."

Brian snickered as he picked up the deflated basketball, while Molly happily gummed the donut, oblivious to the family drama unfolding around her.
