Herbert Walker stood in the kitchen, barely awake. He rubbed his eyes and shuffled to the coffee machine.
Margot was already at the table, reading the newspaper. "Morning, sleepyhead," she said, not looking up.

Herbert poured himself a large mug of coffee. "Morning," he mumbled. He opened the fridge and peered inside. "Anything interesting for breakfast?"

"Just the usual," Margot replied. "And don't even think about the donuts I'm taking to the school bake sale."

Herbert sighed dramatically. He firmly closed the fridge. "Fine, fine. Healthy breakfast it is."

Later, Brian burst into the kitchen, grabbing his backpack. "Mom, I need lunch money!" he shouted, already halfway out the door.

Margot sighed. "Brian, you know where it is. And try not to cause too much destruction today, okay?"

Brian grinned. "No promises!" He slammed the door, leaving Margot shaking her head. Herbert watched him go, sipping his coffee.

"You know, I'm hopefully going to win the lottery this week," Herbert announced. "Then we can all retire and Brian can destroy whatever he wants without consequence."

Margot laughed. "In your dreams, Herbert. Besides, Molly is pregnant, so she needs all her money."

Herbert choked on his coffee. "Molly? Pregnant? But she's only�?� oh, wait, you mean the cat. Right."

Margot chuckled. "Yes, Herbert, the cat. Try to pay attention."
