Herbert slumped on the sofa, the TV remote a vital extension of his hand.

Margot walked in, holding a flyer. "Herbert, the Oakhaven Community Garden needs volunteers. They're trying to recruit people for the fall planting."

Herbert sighed. "Gardening? Margot, I devote my weekends to important activities, like�?� uh�?� ensuring the sofa doesn't float away."

Margot rolled her eyes. "It's good exercise! And think of the fresh vegetables! We could improve our genetic predisposition to ordering pizza every Friday."

Herbert chuckled. "Speaking of which�?�"

Later, Brian entered, practicing skateboarding moves in the living room.

Margot said, "Brian, please! And Herbert, can you at least try to sit steady for five minutes?"

Brian ignored her, attempting a kickflip that ended with him crashing into a side table. Herbert didn't even flinch, eyes glued to the screen.

Margot sighed again. Some days, she felt like she was running a circus.
