Herbert sat at the kitchen table, grumbling. "The monthly budget meeting is coming up," he sighed. "Margot wants to unite our finances. Says it's more efficient."

Brian walked in, grabbed an apple. "Sounds boring," he said. "Can't you just, like, hide some of your donut money?"

Herbert chuckled. "She'd find it. Margot's like a financial hawk. Besides," he added with a wink, "the ultimate goal is to convince her that my fishing gear is a 'necessary family expense'."

Margot entered, carrying a stack of bills. "I heard that, Herbert," she said, not amused. "Before we talk about fishing, we need to figure out these late fees. If we don't pay, they will precede any fun activities."

Herbert groaned. "Can't we just put them altogether on a pile and ignore them?"

Margot raised an eyebrow. "That's not how responsible adults act, Herbert."

Brian stifled a laugh. "Maybe you should try faking sick, Dad. Like I do for school sometimes."

Herbert considered it. "Hmm�?� a financial flu�?� interesting."

Margot shook her head, smiling despite herself. "You two are hopeless."
