Herbert slumped onto the sofa. "Margot, I need a considerable amount of rest after that shift."

Margot, folding laundry, sighed. "You say that every day, Herbert. Maybe if you didn't stretch your coffee break to an hour, you'd be less tired."

"It's a reasonable request, Margot!" Herbert protested. "Besides, without me, who would ensure the factory's donut supply chain is secure? People rely on me!"

Brian walked in, skateboarding under his arm. "Speaking of relying, can I rely on you to drive me to the skate park?"

"Only if you follow this sequence first: Homework, chores, then skate park," Margot stated firmly.

Herbert groaned. "See, Brian? Your mother sets an impossible sequence. It's cruel and unusual punishment."

Margot rolled her eyes. "Herbert, stop exaggerating. And Brian, the skate park isn't going anywhere. Your responsibilities come first. It's a perfectly reasonable request, I think."

Brian sighed dramatically. "Fine. But if I miss Tony Hawk at the park, it's on you."

Herbert watched Brian trudge upstairs. "You know, Margot, sometimes I think a considerable amount of chocolate might solve all our problems."

Margot pointed a finger at him. "Don't even think about it, Herbert. We're having salad for dinner. You can rely on that."
