Herbert sat at the kitchen table, reading a magazine. Margot was making breakfast. "This magazine says you can cheat at board games," Herbert said, grinning.

Margot sighed. "Herbert, we're just playing Scrabble with Laura tonight. It's not the Olympics."

"But what if there's a hurricane of letters, and I need to win?" Herbert asked, only half-joking.

Margot shook her head. "You're hopeless. Just play fairly."

Later that day, Brian ran into the kitchen, looking worried. "Did you feel that? I think there was an earthquake!"

Herbert looked up from his magazine. "An earthquake in Oakhaven? That's not definite. It was probably just the washing machine."

Brian rolled his eyes. "No, Dad, it was real! The ground shook!"

Margot, who had been outside, came in. "Brian's right. It was a small one. The sailor down the street said his weather vane almost fell off."

Herbert blinked. "A sailor in Oakhaven? Since when?"

"He's visiting his aunt," Margot explained. "Anyway, everyone's fine."
